UPBRINGING IS FOUNDATON
The upbringing and
foundation of a person in their family has an impact, influence and bearing on
their adulthood in their communities, workplaces, business places,
interpersonal relations, relationships and marriages. The foundation of a child
should be carefully, strategically and lovingly laid with all patience and
perseverance. Most parents and guardians lack appropriate knowledge and skills
for this important task. Many bear children without (this) adequate preparation
and hence leave children to grow carelessly, unguided, and without mentorship,
coaching, appropriate training and education. The upbringing and foundation
life of a person is as important as (even more important than) a foundation of
a house.
“Whosoever cometh to me, and
heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He
is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on
a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and
could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Luke 6:47-48)
“Therefore whosoever heareth these
sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built
his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and
the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded
upon a rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
Wise parents and
guardians lay strong foundations in their family members upon right principles
of human development. Parents and guardians need to be educated and trained for
this very important role of raising good persons for their societies and
nations.
“And he spake many things unto them
in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed,
some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them
up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and
forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when
the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered
away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked
them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an
hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let
him hear.” (Matthew 13:3-9)
Every child that is born
started like a seed that needed to be hidden from the outside environment.
Every seed of any crop should be buried underground, nurtured and watered until
it germinates, grows strong roots downwards into the soil for a strong anchor
and also grow upwards until it shoots out of the soil. By the time it is
exposed to the atmosphere, it will have grown roots and anchored itself into
the ground such that it shall resist floods, rains, sun scorch and similar dangers.
Similarly, just like a seed has to be buried and later gradually exposed to the
atmosphere, so should children be slowly exposed to certain things, slowly have
their responsibilities increased, and slowly have their freedoms increased due
to a growing sense of responsibility and maturity. These principles should be
learnt by parents and guardians. Children should not be exposed to certain
things, information and risky situations until they grow roots in knowledge,
wisdom, maturity, skills and stature necessary for wellbeing, life and survival.
Children should be
highly valued as an inheritance of the Almighty. Some bear children and leave
them without the care, support, protection, education and training that they
need.
The Almighty has given
parents and guardians the responsibility of raising children properly so that
they may be good leaders, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives and service
providers in their communities. Many parents and guardians are taking this
mission lightly and are failing this serious, noble task. Hence, there is high
moral degradation, there are high infant mortality rates, high rates of criminal
activities, alcoholism and drug abuse/addiction, high incidences of violence,
high rates of teenage pregnancies and high incidences of mental illnesses.
